Oakwood University Miss UNCF 2021 – Samara Bowden
Meet Samara Teine-‘Aulelei Bowden, Oakwood University Miss UNCF 2020-2021. She is a native to Huntsville and is currently a senior at Oakwood University studying Vocal Performance and Pedagogy with a minor in Psychology. She recently became the Music Coordinator with student government. She is also a Navigator/student mentor for incoming new students. Instead of graduating, Samara spent her 4th year at Oakwood studying abroad in Florence, Italy, and what she considers one of her most defining experiences.
For Samara, a “Beautiful Girl Protected by God” which is the meaning of her full name, her passions lie in singing and cooking; her mission, however, is to touch as many souls as possible through the instrument of song and to carry the torch of opportunity into the unexplored halls of achievement for future young Black leaders everywhere.
“The pay it forward mentality of the UNCF is the best way to ensure multi-generational success in our Black community,” Samara said. “This fact alone should be the same reason that people continue to support this noble cause in order to see us all win, especially during divisive times such as these. I am dedicated to merging my social responsibility to ensure this reality for my future children and children’s children.” So give your gift to UNCF to affirm Samara to help students like her by funding scholarships as they follow their life passions.
Fundraising efforts continue until January 21, 2021 ahead of the national UNCF Queens event, where Oakwood University will be represented by Samara. Your generous support is much appreciated.
