Has been established to honor and celebrate the memory of Samuel C. Jackson who loved and was dedicated to music education, both keyboard and vocal. Mr. Jackson, born in Charleston, SC attended Oakwood Junior College where he was a member of the college choir. After a stint in the U.S. Army during World War II, he completed his education at the Julliard School of Music, New York University, and Columbia Teachers College before returning to Oakwood College to serve as Director of the Department of Music from 1951 to 1954. Mr. Jackson has served in the area of music in Alabama Florida, Michigan, Jamaica, Lebanon, and Kenya. Sadly, he passed away April 23.1987.
This award is intended to encourage students who share Mr. Jackson’s love and dedication of music, both in education and performance.
