Camp OAKS
Camp OAKS originates from a collaborative partnership, and is inclusive of Oakwood University’s Healthy Campus, Healthy Community initiative for communities to S.T.A.N.D.O.U.T. Camp OAKS unique focus on invention education, centers on providing students and teachers with resources and inspirational activities that will lead to immersive, hands-on, innovative learning that will awaken curiosity and inspire a generation of STEAM scholars! Project-based learning will allow for experiences that result in authentic student engagement and academic advancement.
Department Faculty and students that choose to participate in Camp OAKS will have access to, and experience step-by-step guided lessons for enrolled students and materials needed for scheduled activities. Oakwood University student-teachers will participate in inquiry-based teaching. They will also have the distinct opportunity to increase inquisitive interest in STEAM and the ability to provide unique connections between subjects of STEAM for optimizing student engagement and learning. Enrolled students will have practical experience using innovative design thinking processes and engineering design.
