Bookman’s Scholarship

A ‘bookman’ (noun) is a person who has a love of books and especially reading. The establishment of the Bookman’s Scholarship was inspired by the impact of a notable college professor, the late Dr. Bernard Benn. Dr. Benn served as the Chair of the English & Communication Department at Oakwood University for 15 years, and devoted over 50 years of his life to Christian education as a teacher, principal, professor, department chair, and college president. Dr. Benn emulated the characteristics of the Master Teacher: patience, compassion, availability, approachability, magnetism, and above all His love.
